Warmth & True Support
For Needed People

We make ways to good things happen
We believe suicide is preventable, and suicide prevention is a shared responsibility. In the Indian context, a complex interplay of social, economic, cultural, academic, occupational, and familial factors influences suicide. Recognizing this, SPAN adopts a community-oriented, culturally sensitive, and interdisciplinary approach, integrating research with grassroots action. Our work emphasizes awareness, early identification, capacity building, and system strengthening, with special attention to youth, students, women, marginalized populations, and high-risk communities.

What We Do

→ Translate research findings into practical programs, training, and interventions
→ Build strong networks for early identification, timely support, and crisis response
→ Promote awareness, reduce stigma, and encourage help-seeking behavior
→ Advocate for inclusive mental health policies and accessible care
Our Objectives
→ To promote and support relevant research on suicide, self-harm, and related mental health issues.
→ To translate research evidence into practical, community-based and institutional prevention programs
→ To strengthen early identification, referral pathways, and crisis response systems within schools, colleges, workplaces, and communities
→ To build capacity among family members, teachers, social workers, healthcare providers, community leaders, religious leaders, and peer supporters
→ To reduce stigma and improve mental health literacy and help-seeking behavior
→ To support and align with national and state mental health initiatives, including community mental health and suicide prevention policies
Our Impact
SPAN works toward creating sustainable impact primarily across India by:

→ Increasing public awareness and reducing stigma around mental health and suicide

→ Strengthening gatekeeper and peer-support systems in educational institutions and communities

→ Enhancing early detection and timely intervention, especially among youth and vulnerable groups

→ Supporting community-based mental health responses that complement formal healthcare systems

→ Contributing to policy dialogue, institutional practices, and public health strategies related to suicide prevention

By bridging research, policy, and community action, SPAN aims to contribute to a healthier, more compassionate India, where mental health is prioritized and suicide is preventable.
